Sound Reactive LEDs with TIP31 Transistor
Recently I built some sound reactive LEDs to put into my gaming computer:
They are on a custom etched circuit board, and it is the first circuit board I’ve successfully etched. I think it came out pretty well:
It was a simple circuit, and I used a really thick sharpie to act as the resist. The transistor is actually already attached, it’s just on the back, since I didn’t want it on the same side as the LEDs:
Here’s a picture of it on it’s 3d printed bracket:
And finally, here it is mounted in my computer:

A etch that worked!
You can also try to diffuse the led’s, by using some sandpaper, or pre-made diffused ones. they tend to work better in a tight environment like inside a PC case.
Nice job!
Thanks for the suggestion, I actually specifically used non-diffused, high intensity, LEDs because I wanted it to look like lightning or a strobe light inside the case, and cause really high contrast shadows inside the case. It looks a lot better in the dark, I’ll probably upload a video of it soon.
